Communications from the Thames Valley DS

Please use the comment link comment button below to add your comments on your likes and dislikes of Thames Valley District Society communications. I am particularly interested in:

  • Whether you separate the communications from the TVSCA from that received from the ICAEW
  • What you like
  • What you hate
  • Whether you prefer e-news (email/website)
  • Whether you want paper
  • What you actually get – brief synopsis

June Stoppress

Welcome to the June edition of Stoppress. May I take this opportunity to thank my fellow main committee members for voting me in as your president for a further term. I hope with this second year I can actually achieve some of the ideas promulgated during the last one. A presidential year has three phases: the first, June to about October, not much happens (primarily due to holidays); October through January you find out what is going on; then February to May you find out what you can change – too late to try and implement anything, so this year I will be off to a flying start! I would also like to thank David Duval and Graeme Gordon for stepping up as Deputy President and Vice President respectively, with Michael Cooper following on, so we now have a succession plan for the next three years at least. Come to the Business Confidence Monitor briefing at the Rye Hill golf club near Banbury. This free event is run in conjunction with Orange as one of Bretherton’s Professional Lunch Club events.

Office 2003 users can view/edit Office 2007 files

All versions of Office can play nice Crabby shows you how

There are a couple of ways to make sure that everyone is able to read, view, and work with Office 2007 documents, presentations, and workbooks.

  • If you are the one who created the Office 2007 file, you can save a copy of it that is compatible with Word 97-2003, PowerPoint 97-2003, or Excel 97-2003. Click one or more of the links in the See also section to learn how to do that for each program.
  • If you are the one who is opening a Word 2007, PowerPoint 2007, or Excel 2007 file with an earlier version, you can download the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats, which will allow you to do just that.

Oxfordshire Broadband Partnership

Whilst campaigning for broadband ORB led the way and tried to get the local authorities, business and the communities to create a partnership to ensure that we could future proof broadband and ensure as technology improved the mainly rural community of Oxfordshire did not get left behind.

The initial meeting in 2004 at West Oxfordshire district council’s offices fell on deaf ears but in late 2005 Oxfordshire County Council changed their minds and under a SEEDA banner, the partnership was created and was able to distribute some grant funding, see http://www.oxbroadband.co.uk
